Artist Statement:
Paul Zwientnig-Rotterdam enjoyed a meteoric artistic career in post 1945 Austria for which it would be hard to find parallel. Born in 1939 in the Weiner Neustadt district of Vienna, he studied from 1960 to 1966 at the Hochschule fur angewandte Kunst and the Akademie der bildenden Kunste in Vienna. But the experience that would make the deepest impression on him and the course of his future career was his study of philosophy at the Universitat Wien. As early as 1968, he was already appointed associate professor at Harvard University's Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. From this period until 1987, his teaching activities were to form an important counterpart to his diverse artistic work, realized up until today almost exclusively in the USA, for many years in New York and, since 1987, in North Blenheim, upstate New York.
